Just so we’re clear on yesterday.

Justin wants me to make sure that everybody understands that it was totally my fault that the website got broken.  He told me that it wouldn’t be just as simple as I thought—download a patch and go.  He warned me that there might be problems.  He suggested that I might be more happy to just stick with what I had instead of messing with it and trying to go with the new thing.  And I said that I wanted to do it anyway.  When it broke, he was totally within his rights to say that he told me so.  And when I moaned and groaned for the next month and a half about how much I missed my website and I wished it was working and could he please, please, please fix it for me?  He sighed with great patience and resignation and did what he could to figure out what had gone wrong and what needed to change so it would work again.

So.  Totally my fault.  And I’m very happy that he fixed it for me.

Moving on!

After not writing for such a long time, it’s hard to know where to start.  Part of me feels like I ought to recap the last month and a half.  Another part of me recognizes that most of the people reading this already know what’s happened in the last several weeks so there’s not much of a reason to rehash it.  Plus, I would have to talk about some very sad events that, honestly, I’m just not up to discussing.

So I think we’ll just start fresh and keep moving on from here.

Today is Friday and it’s been a while since I’ve been so very happy to see a Friday morning.  It’s been an absolutely crazy week at work.  We’ve been working on a major project that’s extraordinarily complicated.  It involves nearly everybody in my department in some way and is interconnected in so many different ways with so many different people, it’s hard to figure out which way to turn when something goes badly.  We were supposed to have finished it yesterday, but it looks like the new deadline is going to be late next week.  There are actually three similar projects working in tandem and all of them are likely to miss their deadlines and get pushed back so we can finish everything that needs to be done.  We’re working like mad, but it’s just not fast enough.

Today is actually quite calm, so far.  Several people in my department don’t work on Fridays because they work 10-hour shifts for the first part of the week.  I have several people I need to chat with before I head out around 11:30 this morning and a couple small projects to pull together, but it should be a relatively calm morning.

Justin is working from home today.  We’re expecting a package from UPS and hopefully a repair man for the hot water heater.  Plus, the project he’s been working on all week doesn’t really require that he be in the office.  He can do it from any computer connected to the internet.

I don’t know that we have any plans for today or the weekend.  We’ll do laundry today.  I’ll do the bills.  Justin will work on his computer.  With any luck, it will be a very restful weekend.

It’s alive!! It’s ALIVE!!!

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

So, I don’t know about you, but I am SO!  EXCITED! that my website is working again.  YEA!!!

So let me tell you the story of how I asked my husband to break my website.

“Justin?  Will you update the interface for my website from MovableType 4.0 to MovableType 4.2?”

"Sure, honey!”

“Thank you!”

And that’s pretty much it.  Justin downloaded the update and instead of being this wonderful new and beautiful thing for me to use, it started sending us multiple errors.  The administrative log in was totally unavailable with all these really weird errors.  The exciting part was when it was actually a MovableType error instead of something else.

so Inking My Thinking has *looked* normal for the last month and a half, but I haven’t been able to log in to actually put in updates.  It was totally dead from my end.

Justin eventually figured out that the error had something to do with our server (complicated technology stuff) and put in a request to have us moved over to a Linux server.  That apparently happened yesterday and Justin went in last night, downloaded the update that I’d asked for in the first place, tweaked a few things that he’s going to tweak some more later on, and YEA!  I HAVE A WEBSITE AGAIN!

Of course, all my old posts are gone from the server end because of the move.  We have backups, but they’re all saved on Justin’s computer.  Justin’s computer decided to take the big sleep last weekend and we’re waiting for parts so Justin can go all bionic man and rebuild it faster!  Better!  Quieter and more energy efficient than before.  But really the key is that it’ll turn on, something his computer isn’t doing right now.

So, for now, there’s nothing in the archives.  There’s just this post and it’s possible that this will disappear after we load the archives.  We’ll figure that out once we can actually access that information again.

And the template for the page is kinda funky, but I was getting so unbelievably tired of that last template that this is refreshing.  Eventually I hope to have something designed by Justin and customized to me, but that’s not going to happen for a while.

In the meanwhile, I have been working on the Grace in Small Things project almost every day.  There was a while over the holiday that I didn’t remember to keep track, but I have a large file of things I’m grateful for and I’m going to work on posting them up here.  In batches of several at a time.

And I’m going to start posting again and getting ya’ll back up to date on what’s happening down here in the South.

But not today.  Today I went to a luncheon to celebrate the life of a gentleman who passed away in my department.  At the age of 88.  He apparently got really bored with retirement.  He was a sweet man and we shared lots of amusing stories about him.  It was very touching.

But I’m out of time for my lunch now and I’ve got to get back to my multitude of projects.  So I’ll put up this post to let you know that Inking My Thinking is back up and functional and I’m going to be back and posting more often now.

Have a great day, everybody!

Garfield Minus Garfield, if you haven’t heard of it, “is a site dedicated to removing Garfield from the Garfield comic strips in order to reveal the existential angst of a certain young Mr. Jon Arbuckle.  It is a journey deep into the mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness and depression in a quiet American suburb.”  It’s hilarious.

Last day of this project. Welcome, December!

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Today is the last day of NaBloPoMo.  This is my 33rd post for the month, so I’d have to say I think I did fairly well on this project.  I can’t say that every post was actually something interesting and worthwhile, but I did manage to post every single day of the month, sometimes more than once, so I call that a success!

I can tell you for sure that I’ll be pulling back a tad in December.  Not too much, because I really do enjoy this, but enough so I can go to sleep at night without thinking about whether or not I put up a  post yet today.  There’s going to be lots happening next month, I’m sure, and I’ll be sure to keep ya’ll informed.  Just not every single day of the month.

I’m pretty sure I should wrap up this project by writing something profound about my experiences and how I feel about it and all that.  But I’m just not feeling it today.  Maybe I’ll think of something tomorrow.  Today has been a gloomy, rainy day.  It’s the last day of my extended weekend and it’s been a fantastic weekend, so I’m not much looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.  The comforting part is that there are only a handful of weeks before the Christmas break and it’s going to be fantastic.

I’m trying to think of something interesting to talk about that doesn’t involve me putting up pictures because I don’t have the energy today to reformat anything.  The best I can get is how thrilled I still am about the eye doctor appointment yesterday.  I brought home two different kinds of eye drops and an eye wash and new contacts.  I’m supposed to used the drops and wash two times a day, and they’re so great.  Maybe it’s just because I get to wash my face with warm water and it’s lovely, but I think it’s that my eyes actually do feel better.  Less scratchy.  More moist.  And they haven’t teared up on me at all since my appointment yesterday afternoon.  Plus, contacts again!  I have clear peripheral vision!  I can see things clearly!  And without the too strong lenses, it doesn’t hurt to look at things up close.  I’m a happy girl!

Plus, Justin and I got haircuts last night.  His was shaggy and he looks so much more clean now.  Mine was just to trim split ends and put in shape and it looks fantastic!

But I think that’s where I’m going to wrap it for today.  I’m going back to my book, curled up with some hot cider.  It’s the perfect late afternoon activity.

Have a great evening, everybody!  I hope you’ve had a great November.
