Allergic reaction

Posted on 19 November 2010 by Kylene

I had a strong allergic reaction this afternoon while having chocolate covered mint Oreos and Silk Pumpkin Spice soy milk. My throat was swollen and raw and my stomach was upset. I took an allergy pill as soon as I realized it was happening and drank a lot of water. I’m eating now to try to over power it with other food. I’m all kinds of loopy, probably because of the meds, but my throat doesn’t hurt as much and my stomach isn’t upset anymore.

I had this stuff last year (the soy milk) so I don’t know why I should be reacting to it now. I’ve had more Oreos lately, so I don’t think that’s the problem. I really think it’s the soy that I’m having trouble handling.

But if anyone has any thoughts or recommendations on that, I’d really appreciate it.

I’m going to go back to staring at the pretty textures on the ceiling now. The cottage cheese texture makes such enthralling shadows . . . .

Uh oh! I wish I knew, but I’m clueless on this. I’m glad you have the weekend to recover.

I’m feeling much better today. But oooh, I was so loopy yesterday!

Did you have that exact kind of soy milk. Maybe it was a spice in it. I can’t imagine that soy would cause an allergic reaction. Other than that, I’m no help, either.

It was that exact kind of soy milk. It’s only for sale at this time of year, and it’s really yummy, so last year I had some and I’ve been looking forward to it being on sale again since then.

We’re going to try a very small sip of it later (in a week or so) and see how it goes. Maybe it was a fluke. But we’ll do controlled testing and see how it goes. And I might go see an allergy doc at the beginning of next year and get some testing done.

My allergic reaction to foods that are related to things that trigger my allergies through pollen is getting worse. I can’t eat fresh pitted fruit anymore, like cherries and peaches, or nuts either because they make my throat itch. There’s actually a name for it — oral allergy syndrome or pollen-food allergy.

Anyway, I’m feeling much better today and we’ll keep on being careful and see if we can figure this out.
