Doctor’s are not scary. Really!

Posted on 18 November 2008 by Kylene

I had a doctor’s appointment this afternoon.  Brand new doctor because my health insurance changed and now I’m in a totally different network.  But this one is just down the street from my office, which is convenient.  Mostly.  I’m going to want to find a doctor’s office that is also close to home for those days when I’m too sick to drive the 30 minutes it would take me to get to the doctor I saw this afternoon.

This office was very different from other doctor’s offices I’ve been to.  My doctor was the only doctor at this office.  It’s her own business.  So there are three exam rooms, a handful of support staff, and the internal medicine doctor.  It’s cool!  Very comfy.  And the doctor is a friendly young woman who says “Okey-dokey” a lot.  I don’t think she’s been doing this for very long because she really doesn’t seem much older than me.  But since there’s really nothing wrong with me, that shouldn’t be a problem.

It’s nice having good health insurance again.

I have to stop back into the office Thursday morning for some blood work.  No food for me that morning.  And then I have another appointment the first week of December to handle some lady-issues.  Fun, fun.  I’m one of those people who goes in for an appointment every single year.  I got into the habit of doing that with my asthma issues and when I got old enough to know that I really ought to take care of those more intimate things, I started doing that every year, too.  And I’m a big advocate of all women doing the same.  There are women younger than me who have already recovered from cervical cancer and women around my age who have already lost the battle and had hysterectomies.  If dealing with one uncomfortable appointment per year can help me avoid all of that, then I’ll take that option over all those other ones.

Anyway, my next appointment will be with an eye doctor.  I ran out of contacts back sometime in July or August.  And my glasses have been driving me absolutely bonkers.  One of the lenses doesn’t actually sit inside the frame.  And they don’t fit onto my head right.  I’m looking forward to taking care of all that.  I wonder if I can get in as early as this Saturday?  I’ll have to make some calls tomorrow.

And that’s the excitement of my day!

When was the last time you went to a doctor’s office?  Is it about time you scheduled that?
