My body hurts. I think I need a new one.

Posted on 17 November 2008 by Kylene

In a fit of frustration over the weekend, I bit all my nails down.  Frustration at my nails, not anything else, just so that’s clear.  One of them had broken earlier in the week and I’d been ignoring it, but I have a really difficult time typing when one of my nails is a totally different length than the others.  And normally, I behave like an adult and use a nail clippers to trim them down to a reasonable length.

But not this time.  This time it went basically like this:

“Agh!  Nails so irritating!”  *Bite, bite, bite.*
“Better!”  *Type, type, type.*
“Agh!  Nails so ragged!”  *File, file, file.*

It was kind of stupid.

I think this is the shortest my nails have been in a really long time.  Skin that’s been protected has been exposed to the harsh realities of my keyboard and other projects and they’re not happy about it.  It’s a very strange feeling.

My tender fingertips are in cahoots, I suspect, with my aching back, hips, and legs.  Yesterday, in a fit of crazy, I went out to do yardwork.  I plucked leaves from the mulch in the front yard and from around the flowers.  I trimmed down the overgrowth and remulched the front flowerbed.  I repotted the plants in the backyard and found a place for my fountain.  Justin fantastically made it work since I couldn’t get the darn thing to push water.

It’s looking much more finished outside the back door.  There’s still a lot to be done, mostly because we have a small closet out there to store all those things we’d store in a garage.  When we unpacked, we stuffed everything we could onto shelves in there and left it.  Some things, like the bikes and the cooler, couldn’t fit so they’re just sitting out in the yard.  It’s not a good plan.  Hopefully next weekend, I’ll pull everything out of the closet and reorganize it so we can fit things better.

But after spending several hours bending and leaning and lifting heavy things and all the other movements that go into beautifying a yard, I found myself in a surprising amount of pain.  I pulled out the hot pad and warmed my back with that while watching TV, and it helped enormously.  But I’m still hobbling around today.

In other news, I had to scrape ice from my windshield this morning.  I say “ice” instead of “frost” because it was actual condensation, like dew.  It looked like my windshield was covered in water.  Even after I turned on my wipers to brush it away like normal.  But it didn’t go anywhere.  Frost is a thin layer of frozen air moisture, not actual condensation that freezes.  That, friends, is ice.  First time I’ve had to scrape my windows yet this season.
Justin opened the window in the bedroom before coming to bed last night.  Naturally.  It’s the coldest morning we’ve had so far this season and I’m the first one to get out of bed, and the window is wide open.  I love the man.  But sometimes, he is the crazy one.

In other random news, here’s a tip for you.  When using a pumice stone on your feet, be sure to stick to your foot.  If you fly off your foot with the stone and, by way of example, pumice the skin off the knuckle of your thumb, you’ll find yourself feeling mightily surprised, pained, and embarrassed.  It hurts!  It’s an impossible spot to bandage.  Just don’t do it.  So now you know.  And knowing is half the battle.  Go Joe!

Wanna know one of my favorite kinds of humor?  Non sequitur.

Hey, look!  A hippo!
