Post-vacation blues

Posted on 8 October 2008 by Kylene

I’ve been having trouble getting around to writing about the trip to Costa Rica.  Partially it’s because I’ve been really busy since getting back—work is nuts and the house is still a wreck with luggage all over the place.  And partially it’s because I’ve kind of got the blues.  It’s that whole “Oh!  Yeah.  I remember now why I was so excited to be leaving” sort of feeling.  And all I’d like to do is pout about how hectic life is and how I’d really like to be cleaning my house instead of working and how, even more than cleaning, I’d like to be curled up in a chair with a book and a glass of wine.

And, to be honest, that’s pretty much what I did last night.  Except that the chair was my computer chair and I was balancing the checkbook to figure out whether we could pay the people who’d called to ask if we’d received their bill.  *Sigh.*

And today over lunch I took some time to write the checks to the people who’d asked for money.  I can balance the checkbook while drinking wine, but I try not to actually write bills.  It just doesn’t seem smart, ya know?

Anyway.  I’ve got a few minutes here before I head home.  I’m not really sure what the plan is for my evening.  I’m hoping to get a chunk of the laundry done and hopefully get some semblance of clean going again.  The chaos in the house is starting to get to me again.  The bed hasn’t been made since we got home.  Our carry-on luggage is stacked in the corner of the bedroom and the small suitcase (the one that wasn’t completely filled with dirty laundry) is propped open at the end of the bed, contents spilling and creeping across the floor.  The kitchen, thankfully, got tidied last night while we were making dinner.  The dishwasher needs to be emptied, but the rest should be fine.

I think it’s raining outside right now.  It was raining on my way into work and I remembered to grab my umbrella before heading out the door.  And then I hopped out of my car at work and completely left the umbrella in the front seat.  This is why I usually have one in my purse at all times.  Unfortunately, it’s sitting in Justin’s carry-on in the corner of the bedroom.  So I’m probably going to get rained on when I head out of here.  Oh, well!  Good excuse to go home, take a hot shower, and spend the rest of the evening in my pajamas.

But right now I’ve got to wrap up my desk and get going home.  I really am going to write about the trip.  It was a great time!  I just get so sad that I’m not still there when I think about it.

Have a great evening!
